If Nissan reintroduced the R34 Skyline GT-R and sold them to Chevrolet who in turn badged them as the Camaro Z28 and sold them in the US for $40000, I would buy one because it's one hell of a car no matter whose name it on it.

 

No, not every other 240sx owner would think the exact opposite. I would venture to say that a majority of people who ever bought the 240SX aren't enthusiasts.

 

No one at Chevrolet would allow that to happen. That's the most disrpectful shit I've ever heard. I'd rather shit on the face of the man that invented the Camaro than disrepect him like that. If they wanted to do that, why couldn't they just name it something else? It's a matter of respect. You don't call a Nissan a Camaro SS. You don't call a Pontiac a Grand National. You don't call a Mazda a 240SX. It's just something you don't do. It's not about how nice the car is, how badass it is, how cheap it is, how shitty it is, it's a matter of fucking respect.

I don't care if it was 1000hp and pulled 14.3g's on a skidpad, and they sold a dozen of them for $35.99+ tax, you don't call a Pontiac a Grand National.

 

But we're not talking about performance. The specs on this GNX are far and above the original. They just look like shit and therefore don't deserve to have the name Mustang.

 

How is it a matter of respect? It's an inanimate object. It doesn't have feelings. You can love the engineering and performance of the car, but that has nothing to do with what it's called.
In Europe, the S13s and S14s were called the 200SX. In the US, it was the 240SX, in Asia, it was the Silvia, the RPS13, the 180SX, etc. It doesn't matter what the car is called. It only matters what the car does.

The car itself is just a hunk of steel, but the people who designed the cars, built the cars, owned the cars, and poured their blood, sweat and tears into the cars are not. I love Grand Nationals. They're Buicks. Fuck Pontiacs.
