the reason why his statement was deemed such a "strong" one was because he said faster AND nicer than the 95%. now i don't think many people are doubting the "faster" portion of his claim, but few will be willing to give up the title of this particular SS being "nicer" than 95%.
to the car.
to the car.

Type R: ive only seen them in 2 colors (
yellow and white), low retail value, mid 14 second timeslips, front wheel drive, 5spd transmission, 16 year olds will look up to you, limited production, small aftermarket, 16" white wheels, 200 +- hp at the flywheel, supposedly excellent handling
why in the hell would you take a Type R over an SS?

As for the above statement I would have to disagree, you are correct about the higher retail the SS over a Type R, but since they dont sell either car anymore we would be talking about re-sell value, I have a good friend and co-worker who tried so sell her 2001 V6 Camaro for well over a year before GM took the car back when she started having ECU and electical problems, so they gave her an awesome deal on a 2002 SS (0% APR) at dealer cost for her troubles. She has had the car for about 7 months was thinkin of selling it and getting into something more practical well we checked the numbers and as most of you know you drive a brand new car off the lost and you have taken a hit as far as value for the car. the retail for the car is considerably less that what she paid for it seven months ago with only 4300 miles on it, and decided not to take the loss of close to 4k.
If I were to put a Type R up for sale in the paper or on e-bay, Im sure I would be fighting people off to sell the car and I could probably get better re-sell even if I added a few mods to it, my local acura dealership had one on the lot for a day and a half before a guy from New York flew down after spotting the ad on the dealer web site, and small aftermarket why you think there is a small aftermarket for acura, honda/acura are the cornerstone of the import after market..............Im not a Type R fan or an SS fan but I can appreciate originallity so...... just my .02 cents

Type R: comes in 4 colors technically, but really 3 (phoenix yellow, championship white, nighthawk black pearl, flamenco black pearl)...mid 14 second timeslips was correct (bone stock)...limited production...HUGE aftermarket (i don't know where you've been getting this small aftermarket info, it's got a b-series motor for God's sake)...15'' white wheels on the white cars, 15'' gunmetal wheels on the black and yellow...195 flywheel hp (2600 lb. car)...limited slip differential...limited production...handles great, esp. for fwd)...possibly higher resale value, or at least an easier car to sell, although an 00 or 01 R could pull 20k if in the right condition, maybe more, not bad for a 3-4 yr. old car that was around 24k new...seating for 4...black suede (alacantara) interior with red stiching...8400 rpm redline....
it's really all about what you want out of the car, but i really don't think an ITR should be compared with a camaro, they're in two totally different classes...but in the end, i'd still go with the ITR, but i'm biased, so...

Upgrades for the type R are less and often more epensive as opposed to thoes of the GS-R or the EX / Si.

either way if someone offered me a car worth more money than another car, that is respectably fast, sounds good and has a good warranty to it, id take it over the other car no matter what it was.
Type Rs are over rated in my opinion. theyre not fast and are overpriced.
tha don's point there is that the type-R is not designed to be fast at VMP, it's designed to be fast at VIR. i've seen 12-13 sec cars put to shame by a 14 sec. type R at Langley. they're a different kind of fast. i think the type-R engine is a bit over rated myself, but a built B18C5 is nothing to fool around with. i'm more impressed with the roadholding abilities of the DC2 chassis in the Type-R setup than i am the engine itself...
i guess it could outhandle an SS, but i seriously doubt by much. i had a 4ws prelude try to play around on a corner with my z28. my car stayed planted, his broke the tires loose and was squirrely (this was before i had some bald ass drag radials on the back by the way)
the type r is ok as a road course car, ok as a quick car. but good at neither. its front wheel drive and has zero torque. an e36 would whoop a type r in the corners and maybe even in the straights. i just find it funny how people sweat type Rs so much and are willing to pay gobs of cash for them when they are nothing but an over rated name.

I agree with the overpriced statement.....for that kind of money Id buy an EG or EK hatch and do b18 or h22 swap ........ and still have cash left to maybe even boost it..... but the SS and the Type R are apples and oranges, too different to compare........
