Confirm : Small Ground Tremors Hampton area?
I don't know if they totally shut down the base for flight. I work at Tysinger Motors which is almost right under the flight line and if my memory serves me right I saw F-22's and F-15's taking off last week. I could be wrong though so I'll keep a look-out this week.
As for sonic booms, I had the opportunity to be on a carrier on one of the Navy's family cruise things. And during the trip they had an air show in which a jet flew by the ship and broke the sound barrier, causing the sonic boom. The sound is deafining and can literally take the breath out of your body for a second. I can see how these exercises off the coast might make some of the houses shake a bit, but because I didn't experience this shaking the other day I can't really compare for sure if it could of been a sonic boom or something else.

Quiet skies
Eagles, Raptors leave the nest as runway closes for repairs

By the end of the week, all operational 1st Fighter Wing F-22 Raptors and F-15 Eagles will have departed the base while the runway undergoes a 60-day closure.
So the base did close. I never noticed untill today that the planes weren't flying. So now i'm totally stumped about fighters from Langley, but maybe fighters from Oceana are to blame?

yup! a few of my friends work on the f-15's and f-22's and have been sent TAD for training while the runway gets prepared. The huge cargo jets destroy the runway every time they land so they are strengthening it.
I can vouch for that. I remember seeing the big AWACS planes taking off and landing as well as the huge C-117 cargo planes. The runway must have taken a pretty bad beating from all the use.
Just asked my pops a few minutes ago the F-22s are deployed to alaska right now and the 15's are at Savhnna(sp) so unless the navy is doing flights for some reason near hampton i think that pretty much rules out Sonic boom as the cause for the shake.
why are langley's planes the only possible source?
there are air bases all up and down the east coast... and the planes fly all over the damn place. i'm not saying it was definitely a sonic boom, just thinking that langley isn't the only air base on the east coast.

Like I said, it could have been one of the PHF aircraft. Just check out what they have the next time you are in NN, there are several aircraft out there capable of speeds in excess of Mach 1. And no, they aren't really military jets.

I haven't noticed anything and I work on the base!
My house is 3 miles from the base and my wife and kids didn't notice anything- I doubt it was an earthquake- (Born and raised in SoCal- I know earthquakes)
The runway is closed for a few months .......... Maybe it was the people tearing apart the runway?
