You have a built motor, I doubt it sounds stock, even at idle. Not to mention they are chrome/polished.

edit: for the most part it usually is an add on ticket. but there are the few aholes that gives cops a bad name and pull people only for exhaust. seen it happen many times. but my sister got pulled over in my truck 5-6 times in 3 weeks with a american thunder split catback ( not too loud but completely apparent it's not stock.) and they just ran her license and let her go.

I keep the recipt from the shop that ran my exhaust, just in case I ever need to use it in court. If you have a recipt from the shop and you get a ticket for altered exhaust. I would be willing to bet the judge will drop the charge in court. If not, then I would take the shop that installed the "illegal" exhaust to court and sue them for installing an illegal exhaust on my car without informing me that the exhaust they ran is illegal.

can install say........ a airbag setup on a vehicle. If you drive it on the street it's your problem not theirs.
Then why can't a muffler shop run an exhaust without a cat?
They cannot legally install an exhaust on a vehicle without a cat, unless the car did not come from the factory with one installed.

"like oem" is your words, the code " comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment, in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise"....."noise in excess of that permitted by the standard factory equipment exhaust system"
The problem is the noise level of the after market exhaust systems, not normally the size of the tubing and ect...
There comes a point when you have to make the decision on what exactly you are building. Are you building a bolt on modded daily driver? or a highly modded race car? Very few cars are able to both legally. I don't need to tell ya'll this but loud exhausts don't always mean faster cars. My car runs 10.10-10.19 all day though headers and turn downs, though the mufflers 9.92 @137 faster that it has ever ran though the headers and turndowns.
The guy with the fully built motor complaining about exhaust and tint tickets...think about this, there is a code section that provides Officers and Troopers the ability to suspend and take in thier possession your vehicle registration and tags for 15 days due to defective and non oem equipment. It gives you fifteen days to bring your vehicle into compliance. If at the end of the 15 days your vehicle is not in compliance the tags will be destroyed, your vin will be in dmv and you will be unable to register your car with the same tags or new ones until it's in compliance. Imagine undoing all that work to get it re-registered. Basically you'll be left with exactly what you built, a race car not legal for the street.

The reason I am asking is because, everything in a car can be considered equipment. From the turn signals all the way back to the tail lights. You can get an improper equipment ticket for almost anything you put in your car...
So if you have amber corners you can lose your registration and tags...
Theres a long, specific list, and yes signals are on the list. Some of the definitions are up to the interpretation of the Officer or Trooper...

How often does that happen though?
Also, when you say they have 15 days to return the car back to oem spec, I have never had a court date within 15 days of a ticket... Is that 15 days after the court date, or after the ticket itself?
