the whole new car vs old car argument depends tho. if you have an old car, then you have more parts that are cheaper available, b/c it's been around longer, therefore more r&d (in most cases...). what if you spent 35k on 1 dsm? wouldn't that still be 1 nice car? you could do way more with 35k on a dsm than an rsx. since speedjunkie said he wants to road race, you would think that with an older car, you could do a LOT that would be more beneficial toward road racing, like suspension, roll cage, some power etc. if you spend 35k on a early 90's car, it wouldn't be falling apart anymore.

of course, personal preference always comes into play. you just gotta get a car you like, period. then work with what you have. otherwise we'd all have the newest hottest shit and noone would have anything different... boooring... i dont' care either way. that turbo'ed rsx is fucking hot. it's got nice g-games 77 wolf rims, a nice body kit, and is fast as well. i dunno what he's got for suspension, but still. i love the way rsx's look. an old 90's car like a dsm is still hot. we all love cars.. it's all good

haha, yeah maybe the 10 dsm's wasn't a good way of putting it...so maybe the honda guys will like this better - you can buy a nice NSX for 35k...I was just trying to make the point the 35 thousand dollars is *a lot* of money.
and wtf dan? since when are dsm's "shitty, fall apart beaters"?

I could have said any car was "shitty, fall apart beaters" as long as they were cheap and old compared to now. ie dsm. ie 240. ie the wrx (give it 10 years). My point was, sometimes monetary value doesn't have that much validity to some people when choosing a car to modify. So you can't use that "i can buy X amount of this car for the price of your 1 car." because it simply doesn't matter.

019: actually, i think you have it switched. there is more r&d in the newer cars than old ones. Aftermarket isnt the only source for r&d. Do you know how much r&d it takes to make a completey new chassis? (in ALL cases).

Totally agreein with Dan on this one; I've got my Accord, which very few people have chosen as their platform for modification... I love it and wouldn't have it any other way, Yeah so maybe in the long run I might end up spending more money to make my car as fast as someone with a 240, but in my eyes its all worth it, because I did it, and if anyone ever asks me, I can say that I drive a "Family Sedan" that will own their muscle car. In my research Ive found cars with my motor and planned forced Induction plans making well over 400hp at the wheels, which for me will equate to a very reputable 1/4 mile time, and I will have fun all along. So all you DSM and SR20 lovin' Honda/Acura haters can go shove it, because for as long as you try to talk shit about us being the biggest rice in the world, we will still manage to own you guys no matter what the competition. This is no defense for riced out Honda's but when a Honda is done right, as is blatantly evident by the RSX, not even an AWD turbo purpose built Japanese Spec race car can take it. And on top of that, the RSX has a unique identity established for himself for the same amount of money spent as the guy with the stock EVO, what more could you ask for? the upper hand in a race, AND the completely unique ride at the same time...

yes i'm aware if takes a lot of r&d to make a new chassis, but the point i was trying to make is that there's more aftermarket r&d/support for an older model. you can't tell me there's more aftermarket parts out there for a z33 compared to a z32. maybe you just misunderstood the way i put it. i didn't mean r&d as in for building the car. i meant for aftermaket/performance parts. and i referred to speedjunkie's plans for his car, in this case road racing, where you would need some pretty vital performance parts.

well the point of modifying a car is not necessarily to be fast. i don't really care how much more expensive a car is. if it's nice, it's nice, hehe. as long as you like your car, that's all that matters. some will love it, some won't. that's the world for ya, hehe.

damn.....people bitching like always!

oh well......my theory is that it is his money, if he likes that, then more power to him! everyone cant have the same car, otherwise, you would be like everyone else, and isnt the entire point of modding a car to make it DIFFERENT?!

to each their own, i guess

Well, being different is why I bought a WRX. Of course, we all see how different it is now... At least I'm still the only yellow one.

I was the only around here to turbo my probe and make it have around 350whp and run 12's..etc. But man, I bitched it out everyday for being fwd and being old and needing to replace something every week.

However, I'm now into a damn 240 which also needs new parts all the time because it's 9 years old, but hey, it's what I can drive, make fast, and still be cheap. If I had the cash I'd import an r34, if I had less cash, I'd pimp the hell out of an '03 Cobra. But for where I'm at, I'm gonna pimp the shit out of my 240 this summer..look out!

Ive been around long enough to know that these conversations go absolutely no where, its like politics, theres always people who feel different ways. The arguments just go in circles and it winds up the same way it started. He has spent alot of money on the car, its a nice car, and its decently quick, it may not be your choice but understand that thats not really of your concern since it isnt your car, just know that you should respect it for what it is. Being a DSMer its great to see all the constant bitching "jesus man for that price I could have ran 10's" but again its never their money so its pointless to even argue.

To sum it up, you have a great car man, I think its sexy as hell to look at, and it gets up and goes. Personally it wouldnt be my choice for a platform, but its not my car and therefore who cares what I think, but I definately respect it for what it is and thats all any of us really should be doing.
