the crank pulley loves to take a shit and come apart on that engine.

balance shaft elimin. is not expensive, but it does take some time (plan on about three more hours if you have never done it) and read the fucking directions. i got to watch someone swap the oil pump over to another block without changing the bearing too, which blocks off the oil passage in the block, causing a MAJOR oil leak and another grenaded engine.

morons.

Ok, here's my take on it all. Is it just your water pump pulley or the water pump itself thats gone out? If its the pump that has failed you might as well redo the entire timing belt system unless you know for absolute certainty that it has recently been done. While the timing belt is off go ahead and do the balance shaft eliminator. It frees up about 8lbs of mass directly off of the crankshaft, with the only downside being a slight increase in vibrations during idle and initial acceleration from a stop. As drew said it only costs about 42bucks or so which is about the cost that the balance shaft belt and tensioner themselves cost anyway so you dont spend anymore, plus you'll never have to worry about doing the balance shaft belt again or fear that it may break on you down the road. As for lightweight pulleys, skip it, no point IMO as others have said. The only lightweight pulley thats worth it is the crank pulley, and even then as you mentioned the buschur pulley is the only one that I know of that still maintains a harmonic dampener, and even then his pulley is only a few pounds lighter than the factory one, seriously the balance shafts will save you more direct weight off the crank and the cost of the whole timing belt set and the balance shaft elim kit will run you less than your 300 dollars for just his pulley. You likely will at some point experience your crank pulley seperate around the harmonic dampener, its just something that happens with DSM's, and you will need to replace it with another factory OEM pulley. The new pulleys I believe have had this problem eliminated and they run around 110 dollars from the factory brand new. This is the accessory belt pulley, so it's easily replaced without messing with the timing belt at all. Might want to make sure that isnt your problem if you hear a large squeek around the belts and your belts are jumping. The pulley basically seperates into two pieces and the rubber dampener inbetween the pieces rubs against itself.

It's gotta be the pump cuz I see coolant/water splurging from all around it

So I guess now heres my list:

San Rafael Mitsubishi (ALL ORDERED ALREADY)
-------------------------
timing belt tensioner - 64.33
timing belt - 56.98
front o2 - 97.49
crankshaft pulley w/ dampener - 94.60
crankshaft seal - 10$
AC belts (only one in stick) - $12
shipping $30.
Total: $365.93

MACHV
-------------------
2G (95-99 turbo) Three-Piece Kit (MACHV)
00258 $199.00

Balance Shaft Removal Kit K01955 (MACHV) $44.00 (ALREADY ORDERED)

AutoZone
--------------------
water Pump (Autozone, afc/gmb) $69.99

I'd also like to see about getting a pulley kit from somewhere else around that same price if not cheaper, along with the balance shaft removal kit. MachV said they'd take a week to get the pulleys *sigh*
P.S. They said ALL they're pulleys are on back order and havn't gotten any in stock for weeks wtf man...

So I guess now heres my list:

Water Pump - overnightautoparts.com sells them for $64-$74 and less w/ free shipping.

Super Strong Timing Belt (MACHV)
02324 $158.00

2G (95-99 turbo) Three-Piece Kit (MACHV)
00258 $199.00

Bushure Underdrive Crank Pulley (MACHV)
17620 $350.00
(or the stock one like 16g says)

Timing Belt Tensioner (MACHV) $76

Balance Shaft Removal Kit K01955 (MACHV) $44.00

and I guess the accessory belts I will get locally.
Stick with a factory water pump, screw the lightweight pulleys they arent needed, stick with a factory crankshaft pulley, wtf do you really need a "superstrong" timing belt for get an OEM replacement, and get accessory belts from the same vendor. Try San Rafael Mitsubishi, call them, their number can be found somewhere on DSMtuners, you'll need to talk to steve. They are a dealer based out in CA but they give a 25% discount to DSM members instead of raping you for cost like MachV will do. Basically you are listing about 900 dollars in parts when in reality everything should be able to be done for easily 400 dollars Id say. I just did a 1g Head swap replacing everything with OEM parts so I should be pretty accurate with that figure. There is no need for lightweight pulleys again, or any "superstrong" timing belt, it just makes people into consumer whores.

I keep editing the list back as the last post on the first page. Also one of the guys from San Rafael says I should replace the crankshaft seal while I'm replacing the crankshaft pulley, so I guess I'll add that to the list as soon as he calls me back w/ the price quote.

*edit* check the list now heh. Tell me if you know of any other place to get the pulleys tho. All this stuff will be in by friday at the latest which will give me all day friday and all weekend to work on my car. I pray to god there wont be rain.

crank seal from NAPA is 4.35, water pump is the same (GMB is what mitsu uses as OE, at least from what i have noticed. GMB is the maker of most OE water pumps for asian imports)

the belts (gates, from NAPA) are about 9 bucks for the alt/wp belt, 7.95 for the PS belt, and 14 bucks for the AC belt. timing belt is about 45 bucks, and the tensioner is 64.

all in stock at your local NAPA store.

and all basically OE parts (the tensioner is Beck Arnely, maker of OE parts, for you ultra OE whores.)

the crank pulley is in stock at duncan mitsu for the same price as you listed. (they usually have three last i called)

if you want a little better price...gimme a PM and i will try to see if i can do better (as in jobber cost)

How reliable are these parts from NAPA? Mainly the timing belt parts. If you claim its nice shit I may just order locally because I too am doing a head swap and timing belt and I will be changing the water pump while its all off. Local parts store products scare me when it comes to the timing belt.
