Does anyone 'cruise' around Williamson anymore?
I wish people would stop with the whole "we street race because we don't have a good track" argument. People street race because they want to, period.
I used to live in Philly, where there's a pretty big street racing scene (there's actually two scenes, the dumbass ricers who race down on Front St. and then the fast cars who do it the smart way and get off a run here and there in secluded spots). But they have one of the best 1/4 mile tracks on the east coast about 20 minutes away (Atco), and there's still a big street racing scene. So it doesn't matter if you have access to a good track, it's still going to happen.

I can't tell you how often I hear (no offense to those who may own these types of cars) in the news or paper about several kids getting busted for racing, it generally involves some riced out slow car. I dont think i've ever heard of - around here at least - some older men in their vipers, vettes, Supras, etc., getting ticketed for racing - this is either because when they do it they're smart about it, they go somewhere secluded, and they of course are running the instruments needed to pick up on any cops.
Don't take my statement as all firm, universal facts, its an observation, and a generalization - I think most could agree.
Be safe if you're going to do it, go somewhere secluded or away from other traffic, and do it at a time when no other civilians are out.

thank you.
we have a great 1/8 mile track at Shelor, which is pretty close(unless you want it in your backyard).we also have several other 1/8 mile tracks in the area.VMP is pretty close to be a world class 1/4 mile facility.
VIR is one of the greatest tracks in the country, and it's 100 miles from Roanoke.Summit Point and Lowe's are also within a reasonable distance.
we have it MUCH better than many people.i just can't see how people can justify spending all this money on modding their cars, but won't spend a little of that money to go a race track and see what it'll really do.
i guess street racing can be relatively safe assuming you do it away from regular traffic-that way only the two offending drivers get killed when something goes wrong
....problem is,some of the people i see on here who talk about how "safely" they do it have been the ones to rev on people and try to race them on 581 in heavy traffic.
"mountain runs" are a joke too.if you think you're pushing yourself or your car by hauling ass up a road with unknown conditions, slower traffic to dodge, wildlife and cops to worry about, then you're an idiot.if you say you're not endangering other innocent people, you're retarded.when you lose control of the car due to any of the above reasons and hit somebody......
cruises to see the sights and hang out with friends are fine, but all it takes is one idiot trying to prove he's faster to raise the pace to an unsafe level.

Pushing your car on a track (or auto-x) is fun and pretty safe. Doing it on the street is not.
Many very good statements made in these last few posts, and I agree with them!
I'm looking forward to when the track opens, can't wait to break stuff!

i disagree, if you made the track open to the public on nights when street racing is rampant (tuesday, friday and saturday down here), charged $5 to run, and put on events like imports v. domestics or mustanks v. camaro's or something similar, the street racing wouldn't be as bad... oh and you'd have to leave it open til 2 or 3 in the morning...
Ya couldn't leave it open that late, zoning reg's would kick in...
And they do have imports vs domestics and such at a few tracks locally...
Everyone kept telling me about a nasty 50 trim SRT out, didnt think I'D have a run in with it. That was the first time I had took the boost past 7lbs with out detonating with the new GT3561.. I think it still leaning out tho, can't get my wideband to read. Race was fun, Fucker was blowing the tires away in third after I took it to 11psi.I would of love to got another run in, but i can't play around with those truckers behind me, i hate racing around em.

even if it is a privately owned track??? there is a group of rich guys trying to do this down here, so i dont know... and yea, i still don't understand the tuesday's down here...
