Default turboing a carb

i have a 86 chevy small block i want to turbo but i hear u cant just use a pressure pleunum u have to get a blow threw carb??? and do i have to up grade the fue pump
mod list
4 barrel quatro jet
mild cam
stock fuel pump
going to run about 4 to 6 psi

You have to make sure that you can either modify the carb or replace the carb with one that can take positive pressure into it obviously. So yes, a blow through carb is what you need.

you can modify a carb to work with blow through set up . I know you have to use solid floats. You can search on the the net for how to do it. I had a drawthrough set up on a camaro worked pretty good but not very responsive. blowthrough is better but fuel injection is the best way to go.

Why dont you just stroke it or something. I mean doing a turbo on that type of engine it might be better if you just upgrade the engine. Like alum. heads, cam, 400 crank.

It will be fine with low boost, no need to upgrade. Use your upgrade money to convert to fuel injection if you want to have a nice turbo setup. That's the first step for reliable power.. Check out Edelbrock's fuel injection conversions (they use our company's ECUs), or strip a FI setup off another engine. Whatever you do, make sure the ECU can be tuned.
