Trying to identify VIN number
Does anyone know where to search VIN numbers for F150s for free? trying to find out if this VIN (1ftdf15rxlrb10935) is a true lightning, or if it is just a built F150. Thanks.
Do a search on the web, certain characters in the VIN are used to identify particular things. In your case, you're gonna wanna find the character in the VIN that identifies the engine type. The 4th through 8th characters of the VIN identify the type of car, body style, engine, etc. I'm pretty sure the 8th character identifies the engine. So check to see if the 8th character in that VIN is for a supercharged 4.6 L V8 since the supercharged and NA 4.6 L V8 will have different VIN characters.
BTW, how'd you get his VIN number? If you spent all that time getting his VIN, couldn't you have just looked under his hood?
EDIT: Ok, after being bored as hell, I did a search and some investigating. You have a bogus VIN number buddy. The 8th character "R" designates a supercharged 3.8 L V6, not many supercharged V6 Fords that I know of...except for the old Thunderbirds.

I appreciate the info, i will check the VIN again and get back to you, but also, it was supposed to be a 1994 F-150 Lightning, not the newer 4.6L, plus the car was parked, and locked, so i couldnt check it out. Called the guy, but no response.
