Default Tranny Question

Hey if I have an OBD-0 JDM B16 Im assuming the tranny is cable... does that mean that a hydro tranny would not work for my car?

what chassis? if it is in a DA or EF(says your sig), it is most likely a cable trans. and a hydro would only work if you bought the hydro to cable conversion kit (hasport, etc) or converted your clutch system to hydro.

hope it helps

There are conversion kits for cable to hydro and vice versa.

why couldnt you just take all the parts off a hydro and put it on the cable? would that work or are all holes and mounting pads different? i just read that people swap with a kit but that still leaves them with the cable part right?

well, first of all, 90-91 cable transmissions are completely different internally than the 92-93 cable transmissions.

second, the case of a cable trans is different than that of a hydro trans. What makes it cable/hydro is the activation of the slave cylinder. the systems are completely different on both cases.

so its just 100% no doable with the proper conversion kit.

and yes, the kit still utilizes the car's clutch cable, but it activates a lever into the shift fork.(instead of hydraulic fluid activating the fork)

dumb question maybe, but would it be easier to change the car to cable or buy and use a hydro to cable conversion?

if you have a hydro car, you'll slap yourself later for keeping a cable trans. its not worth the money or hassle.

sell it to someone needing a cable trans, use the money you make from the sale and save from buying the kit (or parts to make it work). and buy a newer hydro trans.
