i have a 1990 thunderbird supercoupe and having probs with the tranny...

yesterday the tranny would not downshift and then when i went to drive this morning it would not shift out of first ......but now it shift right but it shudders and sorta slips any info on the ford AOD tranny would be a great help thanx

How many miles are on the AOD? They usually only last (depending on maintenance) around 200k miles.

 

it has about 189k on the odometer but not sure actual should i start looking to getting a slightly used 1 or get a HD rebuild kit?

have you tried the basics such as replacing the filter and flushing it with some quality fluid maybe synthetic?
