Tach SPIKE?
I installed a Cluster into my cx hatchback out of a 92-95 coupe that was automatic , and my car is manual. Anyway i started the car everything works except the tach it will idle fine then all of a sudden it spikes to 2 1/2 then goes down then to 4000 rpms , so i figured id drive it. I went around my block and it did the same thing. I got on it once and it started going up fine then around 4 it jumped to 7 and then went back down fluctuating in between 4 and 6. Anyone ever had this problem? If anyone could help me out please post.
Thanks
Dave

You might want to go up to the auto craft shop on Fort Monroe. There is a tech named Mac he might be able to help you out. If he doesnt do it for you he will most likely be able to tell you what is causeing it so you can fix it. I can take u up there on thurday if you want. Send me a pm if interested....Chris
Hey dave, I had the same exact problem when I first got my black crx, I swapped distributors and it fixed everything up. See if you can borrow someones to see if that fixes it.

Check the (-) wire connection on your ignition coil in your distibuter. That is where your tach reads rpms. It is either loose or just needs some di-electric grease and to be cleaned up. If it's not that then the cluster itself may have a fault in it.
An ignitor either works or it doesn't work. If your ignitor doesnt work then the car would not recieve spark, and will not start. The tach Rpm is affected by the negative output of the ignition coil.
