Putting bags of ice on your manifold won't do much. The amount of surface area on the inside of the intake isn't enough to cool the air by itself. This is the reason that intercoolers aren't big intake-like tubes with fins on the outside. You have to make the air slow down to exchange it's heat to the intake, and you also need a lot of surface area to make it effective. It's a flow volume vs. thermal transfer battle. The more internal surface area, the more drag and less flow.. The other battle is that the intake air is a lot more efficient at heating the intake up than the ice is at keeping it cool, because of the amount of air going through it..

A good starting point might be getting something like the plastic TB isolation or manifold isolation gaskets to keep heat from dissipating down your manifold.. I have no idea how well they work, but it sounds good in theory.. =)

Why not do this with a double walled intake tube......find a cold substance that stands time, and release it in bettween the walls of the tube, (of coarse it would have to be sealed....) Such as NOS its cold...........Just an idea dont flame me just hade my imagination going....

I think the problem with that is the risk of condensation. Condensation will send water to the intake manifold...... not good

The surface area of the inside of the intake is still pretty small compared to the volume/cross section of air.

Shinobi: You're thinking along the lines of an intercooler fogger, it works well but with the huge surface area of an intercooler..

No your not fogging if the tube walls are sealed......I can see whatking about in my mind but cant explin it propperly.....
