question about different VTEC motors?
i had a gsr integra and i had a jdm h22 in my civic. i had no problems with either. i will admit the parts for the h22 did cost more but i got more out of them. my h22 put down over 200 to the wheels with a skunk2 manifold, custom headers and crome engine management. i got them both dynoed when they were bone stock the gsr made 154 peak whp the h22 made 176 peak whp. on a side note the h22 made 146 before vtec hit. i enjoyed my h22 civic much better. the gsr was no compare. i'm sure you have already thought of this but k20 is the shit so save and go for that if you can. i have owned both and my vote is h22. b18c had more parts for less. h22 had same parts but not as large of a selection and they cost more. also h22 swap is not really any harder. i got drive shaft shop axles, accord shifter, avid motor mounts. that was the only extra stuff. either way you should buy new mounts because it's just a good idea. if your not gonna boost go h22. the jdm h22 has a closed deck(stronger) and the usdm has an open deck.
Yeah well I se they both have their own pros and cons of course. I have the money for the 22 now but Im gonna save a few more G's then figure out what Im going to do. Thanks again for the help
just remember k20 swaps are getting cheaper and cheaper so keep that in consideration. when i did my h22 swap k20 swaps were about 8k for the full swap and now i see them for 6k so prices for k20 swaps are getting better and a k20 is a much better option. my h22 was a beast compared to b series swaps but the k20 is just nasty the k20 stock dyno is around 200whp and i have seen them hit 220whp with simple bolt ons
the last generation of the RSX-S (k20z1) engines all consistently made 183 whp +/- 1. I'm not sure where you're getting 200whp. This is stock, btw. but yes, simple bolt-ons plus a sweet tune on k-pro will give you roughly 230whp easy.
when i was getting my h22 dynoed once the 2 people before me were getting k20's dynoed. one made 199 and the other made 203. they were both the jdm type r model with exhaust of course. i think the jdm type r has more aggressive camshafts and timing. i was so impressed that that was the stock motor.
i may be acquiring a a b18c1 motor next week if your interested. full swap including motor, trans, ecu, and axles. comes with everything under the hood.
