Default Painting/Cleaning Engine Assembly

Im looking to clean my engine and have it all nice and clean before the swap, and i was wondering if there is a method of painting it (I know you shouldnt paint alumnium blocks because the metal needs to expand & contract) or if anyone knows a home method of getting a block really clean. I dont feel like dissassembling a entire engine and have a shop clean it.

purple power and elbow grease, break kleen works good on nasty shit, painting a block is fine croming it i could see a problem with it but not painting never had a problem here.

i wouldn't think a block would expand enough to crack the paint

It dosn't if he chromed it or powdercoated it yes i could see that since it is a solid shell but not painting.
