Assuming your timing is right and your head isnt milled and your not using forced induction You wouldn't have any problems with detonation. If fabrik8 can convert your pm6 to have a vtec output thats great Id go with that myself. No you cannot just run one wire from your p28 to your vtec solenoid. You need the vtec power and oil pressure.Keep your motor casual(simple) Stay with the pm6/vtec controller or have homeboy modify your ecu for vtec.

The modfied PM6 is only one wire, it doesn't have the pressure sensor like the P28. It's effectively the same as using a VAFC but works better because no band-aid computers are needed to fool or override the ECU. PLus, the coverted PM6 has the maps tuned around the vtec output, so you won't lean out like you would with just a vtec controller..

Thanks to everybody who responded, lots of good ideas.

crxsisohc - have you had any problems with leaning or does your vafc take care of that

uptownspeedstar - I don't have a milled head but I do plan on boosting eventually. Would you recommend any certain PM6/vtec controller setup?

Fabrik8 - With the single set of fuel maps how are the mini-me's in daily traffic? Do they tend to bog down when idling or do they seem to idle like stockers? Also, with planning to boost in the future, do you have any ECU mods that will take care of the leaning/detonation problems once the vtec engages, or will that same mod take care of it? Is your mod a fix-it-all, not meaning to sound like an ass or facetious, it just sounds too good? Please advise.

The program can be tuned for boost, I don't do that though.. There are freeware programs that you can use to do the tuning yourself. I won't be responsible for anything blowing up under boost, so I don't like to touch that stuff. I'll have hardware out soon to make DIY tuning easier. The PM6 VTEC program idles great, our test car is a 89 hatch with a Z6 and runs fine.. The maps are actually P28 maps pasted together at the vtec point, so no problem. The dual map program will be out pretty soon hopefully, it's still getting the kinks worked out..

The leaning/detonation problem is just bad map tuning, all stock vtec programs do that straight from the factory.. Not detonate, but lean out I mean..

Well if you plan on boosting eventually, i would get your PM6 socketed, and then let fabrik put the p28 chip in until you boost it.

Then when you boost, i would use www.Turboedit.org and burn chips, thats my plans, im still waiting on my ZIFs from the group buy its been over a month!!!!! The package got caught in a conveyor, and broke everything!! haha UPS SUCKS.

As a side note, Turboedit has a vtec rom that supports my hardware mods, I made sure they were compatible.

I just had it tuned this weekend, I was running really lean, that is why I recomend a VAFC because then you can have you fuel curves tuned on the dyno
