ok i i was just workin on it and i pulled off the exaust manny and comin out of cylinder 4 (the one closest to the dizzy) was a whole lot of oil. i took out the olug and the plug is covered in oil. i kno that i charactoristic of a blown piston ring but could that be a problem with the valves too or no?

When you say smoke coming out of head, I'm assuming oil vapor. Just a little is normal with a worn engine, a lot however pushes it towards a blown valve guide/seal. I'd have to hear it to say exactly, but I'll lean towards you needing to rebuild your head. how many miles does the motor have? Is there any coolant in the oil? Have you done a leak down test on it? These are all things I would look for in helping get a good diagnosis.

yeah not a head gasket, maybe one of your piston rings? Did you bounce your tach off the rev limiter recently?

well if you have the motor aprt to replace rings why not look over every thing. with a motor that beat i would relace valve guides and seals. Check your valve if they are not bent clean them up on a wire wheel and reinstall in same order. Thourouly clean everything. Headgasket, head bolts, bearings, rings, hone, and replace all neccessary gaskets. If you do it right and all at once your gonna save tons of money in the long run. I personally think you popped ur headgasket and the coolant washed out your hone causing your piston rings to eat its self.

is the motor still together? If it is a quick headgasket test is
remove radiator cap
start car with cap off and give it a good amount of rpms.
Watch. If coolant shoots out. Blown headgasket. If coolant level in the radiator drops gaskets good.
