Just bored out my ls1 block today
First of all, any gap between the cylinder walls and pistons (rings I will assume you meant) is bad. If the gap is big enough that you can see it with your own eyes, thennnnn... it is perfect! good job cant wait to see the startup vid. I suggest the whole start over from scratch method as previously mentioned in this thead. At least you got a head start on boring her out!
Kidding aside, how much work have you done on engines? If you want to grenade that motor and your new pistons, then by all means, start it. You can NOT dremel the inside of that motor. Motors are built on tolerances in the thousandths and more. (thats .001") Theres no way in hell you're going to be able to free hand that tolerance, especially with a dremel.
And I can barley see the gap so i shouldnt loose hardley any compression. Tommrow im gonna finish reinstalling everything, and on wedsneday the motor goes back in my camaro

My friend bored is own block, but he had some expensive machine to do it. I just watched the machine and did the same thing with the dremel.
This guy can't even tell a convincing joke. An LS1 stock bore is 3.89X and the max you can bore them is around .010. I don't think the external diameter of the cylinder sleeve is even 4.125".
thats not true. I dont remember the number, but you can bore an LS1 max to a 454. I'm positive about that. Do the reverse calc and youll find the number. I have it here in a book somewhere.
Its not free hand i used a tape measure

No, the max you can bore a stock ls1 is .010. You can resleeve and stroke and I think mti has ended up with a 455 so far. There's supposed to be a new iron block coming out that you can take up to 480ci and with the new l92 parts coming out its going to be cheap to build a big motor.
