Nope, you don't have to repin if you rotate the cam four teeth. Why the 97-98 heads are different is a huge mystery. Why would they change it in a car that had a limited run? I'm curious to see if it had something to do with the KA24DE starting to go in the frontiers back then.

HAHA. hook me up with some of that nissan vtec.

April issue of Turbo Magazine covers "head tricks, cam selection and assembly tricks" which also has a nice detail of what a combustion chamber should look like when its done with porting/polishing/bowl work.

w/o getting too far into squish vs. swirl ... i can honestly say the CC's of the head posted before will not work on the street too well. Nice work, but poses a lot of questions as to why bother doing "it" that way?

Greaser-

I don't know how far you have gotten so far on porting your head, but may I suggest some things. I would remove the lip between the valve throat and the port. Try to smooth that transition out as much as possible. I wouldn't touch the floor at all. I've noticed that it does more to kill air velocity than than help it. I would blend out the casting imperfections in the ports and throat area.

If you want to get tricky, I would try to make the area between the back of the exhaust valve guide and the area between their and the end of the port as smooth as possible. Right now you have an area that will cause some turbulance in the exhaust getting out of the port. You can scuff up that area really well with a rough cut porting bit. Then take some JB Weld and add it to that area of the port. Allow it to fully cure and dry. Then use a very fine porting bit to shape the JB weld and port into a nice long curve. Finish the entire port with a very light sanding to a high polish.

You can also knife edge the port dividers, and D-shape the exhaust ports.

Hope this helps.

I'm anxious to see what you can do with the KA again. I've almost, but given up on the KA. I want more power. I've started a new project with my new 240 and a certain 6 cylinder that I've acquired. If I can get the cash to get it off the ground....heaven help us all.
