u do know what a mini me is right? a single vtec head on a non-vtec block. so yeah its vtec. compression isnt the issue with boost (within reason), it is just harder to tune with higher compression, but higher compression makes more power.

Fact, a turbo VTEC motor (all other things being equal) will make more power and be faster than a non VTEC motor. the VTEC motors have MUCH better flowing heads, more aggressive cams that will make more power under boost, better gearing, etc. Tuning is however, very important - as it is with any turbo motor. If you don't tune any boosted motor, VTEC or not, you are going to blow the bitch up. People used to have problems with hitting boost from vacuum right at the VTEC crossover, but that is easily remedied with tuning.

So why not get heads ported, and get turbo/blower cams?

because you are spending a lot of money to make an inferior motor even with another motor. VTEC motors are just better platforms to start, and the VTEC cams give you damn good drivability.

Sounds to me like the Honda community needs more knowledgable tuners/porters/engine builders, and less b16/b18/turbokit/suspension installers (aka "shops") so that the world isn't run by huge Japanese corporations.

If it came down to it being better to get stock heads, than to get my stock heads ported, yeah, somethings wrong with the aftermarket support.
