Complications in mixing turbo and vtec?
 

i am a firm believer in the fact that the more there is the more can go wrong...just another thing to break, i have heard that its not really good to mix the two but im not really sure, the car will be a daily driver so im keepin that in mind, dose anyone have any good input on this

used to in the "older days" tuners didn't have a whole lot of experience with mixing the two. So they coudln't get all the quirks out and said it wasn't a good match. For years now though, everyone has been mixing them..b/c it results in more power. It will be perfectly fine to mix them.

i dont really know alot about the subject but with the vtec head isen't there going to be higher compression, therefore you will never be able to run as high boost as a non vtec?

like he said, depends on tuning, and whether or not the motor is in stock form, whether or not the motor is built, has been taken apart and built with lower compression or better internals, etc, etc...put it this way, turbo and vtec=massive power.....

vtec=more overlap
more overlap = bleeding more boost straight through your head.
non vtec is theoreticaly (sp) better for boost, but obiviously, vtec does not necessarily suck either, but on stock, or turbo specific cams.

if your going to boost with a vtec please do not do a mini me swap. thats all i have to say. I didnt do it but a friend did

bauleycivic from HT has a mini-me boosted and he is just fine, other then the "headlift" issues, but he fixed that with arp head studs.

but is it vtec?? If so thats a hell of a compression to put your motor at risk

there is a dyno plot at the bottom of this article showing a turbo on a ls vs. vtec head. NOt sure what all the variables were, but it gives you an idea.
