Default Civic Questions

ok i may be having a customer come in soon and he wants me to install new shocks/struts on his 2000 Civic EX, my question is does he have shocks or struts? my computer at work says struts but he says shocks i wont know for sure until i see the car he is 3 hours away and will be here to do it on a weekend. so i cant see the car until he gets here. also how hard will it be to do. he is not very knowledgeable about car parts so thats why he doesnt know the difference. thanks for the help. also what kind of aftermarket shocks/struts are available and what companies are good to get them from? mostly interested in KYB or Koni, maybe Tokico.

shit, i donr even know the difference in shocks and struts, i just call them shocks, i have kyb's, there descent but not that great, koni and tokico are better, but the job is relatively easy, if you have air tools, no sweat, youll be done in 3 hours by yourself.......if not, plan on a little longer work time.......

yea the springs are over the shocks, compressed in and bolted down to the shock shaft, and that is fitted through the shock tower and then bolted to the frame via two bolts, taking the old springs off is easy, you can either use a spring compressor and compress the springs and unbolt the shock tower or you can do what ive done, and take an air gun and a socket and zap that bitch off and see how far the tower, bolt washer, and spring can fly across the shop, hahhaa.........but dont lose any parts.......

they should have shocks in the back and struts in the front. a strut has the full assembly all together as one (shock, spring, and both perches that hold the spring) and a shock is just the piece that slides out and compresses/decompresses. i think at least
