Default 89 lx engine code

Check engine light comes on after the car warms up. Just started this day before yesterday. I'm thinking it has something to do with my exhaust, like a sensor or something.

Autozone will only check 96 and up (obd 2).

Anyone know the "shadetree mechanic" way to figure out what the code is without having to buy an obd1 thingy magingy(technical term I'm sure)? Or of a place that will check it for free?

Thanx in advance for any help.

Find someone with a Haynes manual. You can hook a jumper wire to one of the plugs in your ECU and it will flash what the code is. I think i might have one for that year at home. I'll check after work.

I've got the Haynes but can't find the section that shows what you're talking about.

I'll look again.
