In climates where it gets cold, this is more prevalent, especially considering the age of these cars. The first few s13's I test drove had the same problem, and one even stopped working in the middle of me driving it. And yes, it affects both the HUD and the dash display, in case you were wondering.
If you're really set on having an HUD, good luck trying to find a non-broken one. If worse comes to worst, pick up a regular gauge cluster and keep that around if you can't find a working HUD or your replacement breaks.
