Most reliable:
Pay a reputable shop to overhaul the engine

Cheapest:
Sell it

dude when it comes to fixing sumthing major like piston rings then u dont want to cheap out because u get what u pay for...and if u think u can just replace the rings then ur wrong because ur gonna have to rip the head and oil pan off. so ur gonna need a full engine gasket set, head bolts, rod bearings, possibly rod bearing cap nuts(depending on how its set up in there, iv never had one ripped apart),rings. then ur gonna have to get the head pressure checked, cleaned, and milled to ensure the head is fully flat plus the time to do it so yea theres not a "CHEAP' way of doing this...sorry buddy u either got to deal with it or sell it.....thoes are u 2 cheapest routes lol

Right when you start it up from cold? Sounds more like bad valve stem seals to me.

There are plenty of kits available that include exactly what was mentioned for the QR25DE motor. Even if you don't want to do the work yourself, I'd suggest purchasing one and providing it for the shop you take it to to ensure that even they don't get to cut corners.
