bad ring?
so i have a b16 and im guessing its a bad ring but im not 100% so it only really smokes when i hammer it and when i went to change a spark plug there was a puddle of oil on the plug anyone backing up it has a bad ring and if so how hard are thy to replace?
Do a leakdown test... that will be the way to tell. Oil on the plug bottom IS an indicator of a bad ring or a bad seal so is the smoking while "hammering" it. Don't have to listen to me though... but I did already have a ring fail

tube seals deffiantely if you have oil ON TOP of your spark plugs.
this also makes your plugs foul out, robs performance, gas mileage, and can even over heat your engine.
replace the tupe seals that come with the valvecover gasket, and then recheck everything.

oil on top of the plug might indicate a bad valve cover gasket or spark plug seal or whatever your motor uses...
was there oil on the electrode itself? did you have oil in your intake plumbing where your breather line attaches?
a simple compression test would let you know if it's a ring...but smoke under flogging says blow-by to me...
