Default 1998 Eclipse GSX having Turbo Problems Help Please!!!

OK my friend just bought a 1998 Eclipse GSX. When he bought it he was told by the saler that the car was having problems with the turbo. The problem is when you drive the car the Turbo sometimes work and some times it doesn't work and you can barely hear the BOV. My friend was told by the saler that the Turbo need to be connected, that there are some lines that were not connected or something like that, but he is actually not sure what that means. The other problem is that sometimes the check engine light goes away, but after a little while it comes up again; I don't know if that has to do with the turbo. The turbo is the stock factory turbo. The only thing that has been done to the car is a Turbo Timer, Full Exhaust and that's about it, nothing major done to the engine. Does anyone know what the problem can be?? And how much it might cost to be repair?? Are there any good DSM mechanics here that know what the problem might be and what to make some money?? Please let me know. My friend lives in Alexandria, so if you are close to the area PM me for information.

Thank you.

If you want a good DSM mechanic then PM HighPSI TSi Guy

The only lines that run to the turbo are the oil and coolant lines, the stock turbo may survive without the coolant lines but it will certainly die quickly without the oil line connected. It seems like neither of you really know much and I would just suggest PMing HighPSI TSi Guy (dave) if you want it fixed.

Also please work on the grammar, "My friend was told by the saler that" jesus christ

e: the stock t25 is useless anyway, ditch it for a 14b which can be had for around $100.

14b can run 10s

I'm just saying that if the turbo is dead then I wouldn't waste my time putting another t25 on it.

Why do you think the turbo sometimes and sometimes doesn't work (down on power, boost gauge not showing anything)? If its basically stock then you wont really hear the BOV. Does the car have a boost gauge besides the stock one?

No, the car doesn't have an aftermarket boost gauge. The car has Greddy BOV valve, but you can even hear it.

Take off the intake and inspect the turbo for shaft play, chipped/damaged blades and if it will freely spin

I work in Alexandria, could probably take a look if all else fails... but first:

Go to advance auto.. ask them to pull the code and find out what is causing the CEL.

Report back to me with the code and we'll talk.
