If you do get a new tranny, try to get a later model year, not another 02-03. I don't remember when they strengthened the WRX trannies but I think it was sometime during 03. Take it easy on the drag launches though..

They did strengthen them a little, but not enough to make a difference. The 5 speeds are still a worthless box for even "spirited driving." They can be broken with stock power if you dont drive with any mechanical sympathy. You can go to a later year tranny but your still going to have this problem if your drive the car hard. If I were you I would spend the money on a PPG box. Its worth every penny. If I knew now what I knew when I first got my Subaru that would have been my first mod. But then again, I sold the car because I didnt want to spend the money on a good tranny. Give Kienan a call, I'm sure he can help you out.

Another good option would be a 6 speed swap, but after buying everything you need you could spend a little more for a PPG.

The PPG gearsets aren't that bad pricewise, you can get helical cut syncho'd sets for not that much. The straight cut and mixed straight/helical sets are more. I'd have to agree, if you're getting tranny service anyway it might be something to look into..

No they aren't priced that bad, but I was to the point where I needed a tranny If I wanted to make more power, and then I would need to build the motor to make having the tranny worthwhile. So I didn't want to spend all the money, I was torn so I sold it. But I have vowed to own another In the near future. I miss it a lot. Kienan is def the guy to go to if your looking to do a PPG set up. He used there straight cut 1-4 for a long time, and just switched to the dog box...its fun.

FINALLY got a verdict on my 02 WRX...apparently the 'fork' on first and second gear is broken, and because we've raised such a stink over my car being in the shop 4 times in the last 8 weeks with me only driving 9 days of that, that Corporate is paying for the parts and repair! ok ok all I'm saying is that if this is really from my 'enthusiastic driving' than why are they continually picking up the tab?? I think the true reason is because they know that the tranny in those cars are crap and just want to try to apease the owners that raise enough hell about the problems it has.

But anyway the part should be in Tues and I'm guessing I'll have my car by this weekend...fingers crossed!

But I'll def be giving Kienan a call cause I've been holding off on installing my turbo gauge and turbo control because of all of these other issues...I'm hoping for a little extra kick from the controller upping my psi to 15...is this reasonable. So far my mods include a new turbo(oem) SPT exhaust, SPT air intake, stage 1 clutch from 'I forget their name' and then hopefully the turbo controller. Any suggestions are helpful...you all know more about this than I do currently...I'm still in school!

I would ditch the boost controller for management. Its safer, and will run better/stronger.

if you bent a shift fork on it, you need to learn how to drive. those are some tough bitches to bend or break. i beat the piss out of many of those boxes, some with RA sets, some stock, some with dog's, and never had a problem out of the shift forks.

i hope you got a flywheel instead of stock b/c you hear this everytime and i can say i have done this also. but a new stage one clutch on stock flywheel and the clutch grabs so hard and the weight of the stock clutch is to much for the tranny something has to give.. you here it all the time i just got new clucth and now my tranny is done....WTF.

Well...words of wisdom. I still think I'm a pretty good driver I mean I drive it hard no doubt about that but...I drove my car for only 8 days after I got it back from Perry after they had it for a month...then all of a sudden I cannot shift? It's not a daily driver, I drive it to work and that's it. Oh well it's fixed now and I'm hoping not to have to drop large amounts of cash into it again unless it's by choice

In the meantime I'll be doing some research on modin' my WRX...any good sources y'all recommend?

That is absolute bullshit. I'm sorry. A stock flywheel paired with an after market clutch is not going to do that. Something else was wrong.

My first recommendation would be to ditch the boost controller. As for modding advice, it depends on what you want to do with the car. What kind of power, what you want to do with it i.e. track, fun street car, 1/4 mile etc. I can probably answer a lot of your questions. Or you can call kienan at all aspects back. He can pretty much answer any question you can think of. You could try nasioc too. However, I really cant stand it there.
