Default trouble shifting

Lately I am having trouble sometimes getting the transmission to get into gear, and sometimes even get out of gear. Specifically, if I am a bit toward the top of the rev range, I have to pull a bit to get the transmission out of first gear, which happens with a kind of pop. Sometimes everything feels smooth, and other times its hard to get into gear. The transmission fluid was changed, and the proplem didn't go away. I am hoping its something external like a pressure plate adjustment, but I want some advice. This is on an '87 mr2 n/a with 210,000 miles.

Ya you might have to get your clutch adjusted, I have heard of a problem like this before. Pushing in the clutch all the way would also help.

There is most likely something wrong with your clutch.

.. and you shouldn't need to depress your clutch to the floor to change gears, just to engage first gear initially.. then only ~1/2 way for gear changes once the car is moving.

Of course I push the clutch in all the way... down to the floor on every shift. I don't know exactly how many miles are on the clutch, because I bought this car used without records. On my previous cars, the clutch would always slip before the pressure plate would go bad, so I never had a problem like this. So it looks like I am up for a clutch replacement huh?

Well that can be pretty expensive depending if your going to do it yourself or not. I would take the tranny off and examine the clutch and pressure plate, and be sure that the clutch is definetly the problem. Hope everything works out for you.

Clutch, or maybe even a bent shift linkage.
