It is the forest. The trails are roads through the mountains. They were built by the civillian corps, in the 1930s. Some are maintained State and Federal Routes. The actual trails have a Federal Route designation, but are generally not maintained, except for erosion control. The only authority are the park rangers. You almost never see them, unless you camp at Crabtree Meadows.

Shoe Creek is a good trail because the beginning of the trail is Crabtreee Meadows. There is a parking lot and a latrine. Crabtree Falls is about a 1/2-mile walk. It is a realitively popular area.

I ran it a few times when my Xterra was stock.. didn't have any problems for never wheeling before lol

Do you guys usually go up the mountain or down? i've always started at the bottom and gone up to the parking lot

We ran from top to bottom, then went most the way back up and the down again.

O damn! i was there the same day as you, i was in the white xterra along with the black frontier and the blue TJ. we started at about 11 or so and got to the top around 4 i think
