It depends on where you go. Here in Roanoke, there are no emissions tests for inspection. Well, at least, the 3 inspection stations around me don't do them.

Changing the downpipe on a WRX takes about 10-15 minutes. If that is a big concern to you, I'd just change back to the stock downpipe before doing any emissions testing.

 

yep. any kind that uses a sleeve over a stock strut sucks in my opinion.

I heard a rumor that VA had already converted to the OBDII testing for emissions, instead of the sniffer test. Is that true? Or does it vary from station to station or county to county?

 

yup its true, plug and play emissions for obd2 cars

 

it has always been part of the emissions test to check for any codes, that was the reason OBDII protocol was introduced. its only in three counties in VA for the emissions testing though. we dont do it down this way.


from what i recall, they use the standard IM240 test: idle emissions, 2k loaded emissions, and 2k unloaded if i recall.

 

so to verify, yes it is possible to perform emissions tests early? if so, ill probably do it next week.

 

yep. if they give you any shit, tell them you are gonna be out of state in school and want to get it done before you leave.
