Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Is it legal? No. Did you know that? Prob yes. Its part of owning a modded car in VA get used to it and quit bitchen. :-)

 

Im a NC resident & still got a ticket in VA for my exhaust, I got pulled over for speeding, then I wound up getting 4 tickets in total, VA Laws suck!

 

Just have a buddy in a mustang or harley follow you wherever you go.

I was reading in a mag that most of the cops are good ole boys who always wanted muscle cars coming up and will give them a pass everyday of the week. Hopefully, this generation will be replaced by the kids of today who understand that this is our generation of hot rodding. Back in their time hot rods and muscle cars were considered a nuisance and something deliquent kids raced on Saturday nights while cruising for chicks at the local drive thru. It's just an example of changing times, changing perceptions.

untrue. If you drive an import, you WILL get pulled no matter what, for your exhaust. It's become the new "busted tail light" for cops these days. I got pulled for my OEM exhaust on my 91 talon 6 times in about 4 years. Only thing the stock appearance does for you is get you warnings instead of tickets. I get pulled, and they use it as their excuse for pulling me, some get an attitude with me i guess trying to see if i'll act like a jerk or not, when I'm polite they give me a couple sobriety tests and send me on my way. They just use it as an excuse to pull you. I did get one cop that not only called for backup to surround me but also gave me a ticket for the OEM exhaust. His response when I told him that it was stock was "I don't care, I'm giving you a ticket anyways". Needless to say I made him look stupid in court. Bottom line, drive an import or sport compact, be prepared to be pulled over at any time.

The most pathetic part of it all is how we've gotten so used to this situation. We accept it and take the harassment like it is normal. We joke about how wrong it is, without realizing how seriously ridiculous it is.

 

nevermind..not fucking with a childish mod....you may need to read more and learn about hot rodding in its social context during its nascence. Kids and cars have always been frowned upon and insurance rates and accident statistics back this up entirely. The shift in police attitudes is coming about with the newer officers knowing about the import culture and some actually partaking in said hobby themselves. There are officers on this very board. And I still stand by my statement that harleys and older cars/trucks get a pass on the modified exhaust law.

its not a fart cannon. but its still illegal. quiet or not. do what i did and paint the canister black. it will look more stockish, if that dont help. cut the tip off

I understand its illegal, but honestly do cops really have to pull someone over and waste 20min or so just to write a ticket we both know can get out of. The cop basically told me how to get the ticket dropped [idiot].
I just hate being targeted out of all the other people who do shit to there cars,bikes,etc. I guess its jsut part of the game.
&+ like stated before he was in 5th going 45mph and I was around the same. We both baby our cars, while there were about 10 other wreckless kids there that night who they cuold of pulled over instead.
