The cop was bored and he knows that 90% of the people that go to BK must have at least 1 thing thats illegal. I had a ws2 on my boosted teg ,I had it for over 1 year and I never got a ticket for it. You can ask joe*NX2KDET that thing was quiet as hell. Pay the ticket or get a pic with the stock exhaust and your license plate and show it to the judge.

I got pulled over at 12:30AM on 1/2/09 and I was on the interstate. I had a dangling custom exhaust and the cop said it was banging around and making a lot of noise, so his decibel meter was fluctuating and he was sitting in the median. The cops are probably just looking to fill their quota on a crazy New Year celebration.

Make sure you have the pamphlet that came with the exhaust that shows the actual dB reading and always have it handy for your next pull over.

 

I agree with what you said but even if you go to a parts store to get an exhaust that is an OE comparison it is still aftermarket. The only ones that are not aftermarket technically is an OEM unit and I will not pay that price at Honda for an exhaust when I can get something that is better.

I got pulled over in that are a long time ago just passing but in a 94 GSR with a Greddy exhaust and I told the cop the above statement and he let me go. I think that the biggest thing is that the see a shinny exhaust.

 

i thought honda factory exhausts are replaced free for life.. atleast, my dads' gotten free replacements on his 86 like 4 times...


anyways, i don't even think they have a decible meter in there cars to whoever said that. that said, the law is completely up to the officers discretion. i mean, have you HEARD how loud stock vipers are? ...

 

it isnt so much the decibel level. it is the fact that a modified exhaust is illegal. so if you get a ticket, you are SOL. I think the law is kinda dumb, but, it is the law.

It doesnt matter if the exhaust is loud or not, any exhaust that is on a car that isnt OEM is illegal.

 

I don't think that he is arguing the point that in VA it is illegal or not. He wants to know his options to try to get out of having to pay the ticket. Like said before you might get lucky if you take the rear section off and put on a stock one but it will be up to the judge. Either way it is worth a shot.
