Tech help :)
I have a friend who has a 2000 CBR600f4. He tried to fire it up this weekend and it won't turnover. It will crank but no fire. Upon further investigation found that no fuel was getting past the 2/3/4 carb. I know cars pretty well, but bikes and carbs/itbs are a diffrent story. What things should he look at? I told him chk. his tank, fuel pump/filters etc, etc. Does anyone have any xp w/ this bike? Any and all help is appreciated.
Thnx,

Re: Tech help :)
it doesn't take much time for carbs to gum up with the crappy quality of gas these days. i'm gonna have to agree with the masses, if it sat for any length of time, the carbs probably need gone thru.
you MIGHT get lucky and can just drain the float bowls and the tank and put fresh gas in it and be good to go, but that's a slim chance. pilot (idle/lowspeed) circuits in motorcycle carbs are REALLY tiny as far as orifice size goes, they gum up pretty fast.

The bike worked prior and was ridden on most good days this winter. One day he fired up and nothing. The float bowls didn't have any fuel in 2/3/4 also. I told him to drain (stabil) and put new gas and see what happens. I was just looking for other options.

Re: Tech help :)
take a long screwdriver, or something similar, rest it on the float bowls, and tap it lightly with a hammer or something (with the fuel on, and the drain screws open) until they start spilling fuel. sounds like the float needles are locked up in the needle seats. (in the up position, so they won't let fuel flow)
but, if that's the case, he's probably gonna still need the carbs cleaned. can't hurt anything to try though.

Re: Tech help :)
honda fuel pump relays tend to suck too. when you turn the key on, rest your hand on the pump, you should feel it vibrate for a second or two. if not, you may have an electrical problem with the pump (if so equipped, i don't recall off the top pf my head, but it probably does) check it while you're turning the motor over too. SOME bikes don't activate the fuel pump until you hit the start button (kawi's mostly) but some other bikes are like that too. worth checking out.
