Re: drag strip ??
The bike has to pass a tech inspection................no license needed and the bike doesn't even have to be registered or insured for normal drag racing. Some competitions might require the bike to be street legal though.
You need a helmet, boots, gloves and a full suit (textile or leather); it can be a type that the pants zip into the coat though. I would highly recommend a back protector if the track doesn't require it already.

Re: drag strip ??
I forgot to add:
Do NOT, I repeat...........DO NOT ride the bike to and from the track. If something breaks you're screwed, and even if nothing happens.............that's a long ride home.

Re: drag strip ??
what kind of bike is it? or more specifically what times do you expect to be running?
what you need will depend on what times and speeds your running, or whose working tech and whose out at the line enforcing the rules, but its always better to be over prepared and them not check, than to not have something you need and have a redneck on a power trip at tech...
regardless of what you run you'll need a chain guard of some form, stock plastic, aftermarket metal, carbon, whatever, there just needs to be something there covering some part of the chain... gloves, i don't know if they have to be leather or have to cover your wrists, but i do remember my friend not being allowed to run for having short textile dirt bike gloves... you don't need boots, most fast guns run in simpson shoes that are little more than socks, but if you have a pair great
if your not going, i think its faster than 120mph, or 10.99 seconds then a jacket, textile or leather is fine and jeans... if your going faster then you need leather pants and jacket, then you'll also need a kill switch, you can put a wood screw in your on/off switch and tie some string to it... full face helmet no matter what obviously... never heard of a drag strip requiring a back protector, i take mine out when i go because its easier to get into a good launching position with out it
i usually ride to the track and ride back, the only bikes i've seen break at the track are seriously built drag bikes, if your just messing around with your street bike you should be fine to ride there and back, only thing i see happening is maybe smoke your clutch in which case you could probably still limp it home

At Richmond Dragway, you don't need much. They want you to have boots and a jacket, but they will not stop you if you are wearing lace up shoes. Helmet, of coarse is required. At Dinwiddie, I have heard you have to have full leathers, boots, helmet, and a chain gaurd.
