VCU Murder
Maybe I'm just jaded growing up in DC, but I've always been a smart kid.
I know that if I'm walking down an alley and somebody starts rolling up behind me fast, to mind my guard and stay ready to run if necessary.

the kids were in the middle of byrd park at way past midnight. they should've have known better.
but that in no way excuses the perps from the crime. a couple kids around the age of 15-18. and they shot an unarmed kid in the back without any provocation. they're nothing but a bunch of lowlife shits that deserve harsh punishment.

I plan on getting a permit as soon as possible.
^This is what I'm talking about. My parents tell me about it the same way, they've lived here for a long time. Shits gone down the toilet. I do my best in my own little way to pass the good on, but the problem is far greater than a few people being polite. I've lived in the area all my life, and I've been living downtown for around 2 years, but theres a point where no amount of street smarts will save you from bad people.
Just quit watching the news and reading the newspaper and everything will seem to be allright.
I feel for the younger crowd, they only know the society they have been brought up in. I'm not old by any means, but I can remember when people were polite, held doors for each other, said please and thankyou, and didn't drive like total assholes.
I can remember as a kid going where I wanted when I wanted without a worry in the world. Times have indeed changed, and for the worse.
If you don't already have a concealed carry permit, you are going to want to get one and carry any time you leave the house.
I will agree with the out of town kids coming here for school and not knowing what they are getting into, it's not like there are signs posted or flyers handed out that say "Welcome to Richmond, Duck and Cover!"

Yea, Richmond isn't the safest place to be perfectly honest, you have to know where to be and where not to be, and use some smarts about it.
The atmosphere won't change, Richmond is a pretty ghetto town, and the school is in the middle of it. You want perfectly safe, go somewhere else with a closed campus thats rural like Ian said, but there are elements of danger everywhere.
