dont look for too much answers on here for subie Q's. if you are going to eliminate all the restriction on the sti exhaust i would look into www.turboxs.com for full exhaust systems for better flow. as far as up-pipes go, alot of people i see go for the helix flex uppipe. i went for a full HKS setup(up,down/catback exhaust) no cats on my car and has an awesome rumble to it. i havent heard anything bad on Borla uppipes..but read a little of this before you buy. i wish i did. just my .02

READ ME!!!

nabisco sucks ass.

get a TBE with a high flow cat, and you will be legal and have power. the TXS has fitment issues i have seen, the Godspeed one fits the stock cat, and the Perrin has been discontinued.

i modify the Invidia DP and add a 3" high flow cat. takes a little time to fit and make right, but it works well.

no need to do an uppipe on the STi, of course, and headers dont help the stock turbo. however....they do help if ya run a large turbine (the 34 is questionable, you lose low end spool, but you dont have as much top end taper, but on a 22 or an 18g or larger, it helps.)

you do not have to be CARB approved in VA, as long as the vehicle has emissions equipment of OE style, then you are fine. you dont have to worry about a loaded IM240 test either, you will just get an idle and off idle sniffer test. (no AWD dyno required for that.)]

I have an STI and i have no cats, i can pass inspection through friends anyway. An yes the cat is the biggest downfall. Also just a tip for the future from personal experience(lol) get aftermarket axles www.driveshaftshop.com
Borla headers are the cheapest, and they give a 30 hp increase i think.
