Used Japenese Cars ($900 to ship to US)
You will probably never see this happen on the East coast. I have done all the research with my business partner. If anyone has 100,000 to ship, we can get a SLOW start. Yeah, its cheap as hell to buy in US dollars...but....try this on for size:
*A $30,000 bond to be allowed to ship. You do not get this money back...basically, its insurance.
*Price of the vehicle
*Price of shipping....around 1000 to 2000 per vehicle
*Prep to ship....around 500
*Customs and legalities-$$$$$$$$$$$$
If the car does not exist in its exact state here, you have to buy and crash three vehicles of the same type to make the vehicle legal.
Then, you have to pay to have the exhaust system converted to US specs...have fun.
Expect another few thousand for misc. costs and extra shipping and prep.

How about, you buy it in Canada and register it up there. Just drive it across the border, it's easier than you'd think. Then you get a business liscence and "open a used car dealership" (notice the quotes). Then you spend the 60 or so bucks on dealer tags (can be placed on any vehicle). Then, you drive your car around and look really cool cuz you have a Skyline and everybody else doesn't.
damn you vmspionage!!!! you took my idea. just kidding.
that is what i am working on right now. we pull all the panels off we can, drop the engine and drivetrain and put that in one container. then we are gonna put the remaining chassis in the other. still gonna cost me about $20k to get it here with the car price, fees, labor...ect. can you say Altezza in the states? hahhah i cant wait!

Something to think about:
If there were viable loopholes to get Japanese market cars into the US for legal use without having to make them "legal", people would be all over it already. Whatever wacky ideas you might have, people have already thought of, and most likely, tried already.
For the most part, if the car has a US chassis equivalent, it's usually just cheaper and a hell of a lot less hassle to ship the parts you need to convert instead of the whole car.
Besides, having a RHD car really does kind of suck in an LHD-oriented country.

people are already all over it. its just a matter if you wanna pay the price of insurance fraud. there are a ton of jdm s13s in cali. If you want a car that isn't here aka skyline i wish you best of luck. But as for me. i just want a Fc and swap in my old vin plates.
My cousin had a jdm fairlady z31 he shiped him self and drove in NOVA.

I like that registering in canada idea and driving it down to the states... only my car of choice would be a bitch... mitsubishi fto gpx... you don't ever see those in the states. but it would be so sweet...

the only other affordable way I know of is to get the car broken down and send the parts over as just that - parts. Even then you would have to register it as a kit car.
