So I got two tickets for not having my car registered today...
To clear up a misconception, I think a few posters have the wrong idea about the $500 uninsured motorist's fee. Payment of that fee gives you NO COVERAGE WHATSOEVER and you are PERSONALLY LIABLE for anything that happens while driving that car. But the state gets their money so that's all they care about.
Really, he should imagine being sued for at least a million dollars, and living the rest of his life with the court garnishing every paycheck, to pay that debt off. It could absolutely happen. Talk about soul-crushing mistakes.
OP is an idiot.

well thanks for the neg rep and all. Talked to the cop today to work this out. The guy that bought my car the day after the whole ordeal can't register the car because i had signed the damn thing, and the whole "no alteration or erasure or voids title" deal saved me. haha. So he's mailing me the title next week, i'm registering the car, getting plates, then handing them right back over with the bill of sale.
So the car will be in my name. and sold seconds later. charges are being dropped. Lesson learned. and i'll make sure i do the speed limit and have insurance from here on out.
and no U.M. fee either. goodnight.
i'll go lurk classifieds now.

He would have to kill someone for a payout that drastic, although possible, I was trying to be a bit more realistic. Also, I already stated that about the UM it doesn't mean you can drive your car. It's for if you don't want to carry insurance, but want to keep the car registered and it doesn't move. Or you pay it if you get caught by the DMV for being in a lapse of insurance.
Wow, so where did you learn all of your wonderful insight? Selling junk cars? Is it the law degree you have? Personal experience? Waiting Tables?
I am well aware of what is possible.
However, it is highly unlikely and that's all I was saying.

you dont have to get tags...just put the car in your name and then sign it and give it to the new owner...
your doing a title change not tagging the vehicle
your doing a title change not tagging the vehicle
But feel free to continue being an asshole about it.
All in all it doesn't matter. I didn't post that to start an arguement, I guess I was just reiterating that driving around with no insurance can mess up people's lives more than they think.
