Yes, and boats, and airplanes ... i guess once you know what you are doing and feel comfortable in doing so, it really is the fastest way.
There is a trick to it though, you have to hone out one side by sliding it back and forth over a smooth surface, and that flattens that side of the razor allowing it to slide over the surface (paint, boat, whatever ...) without digging.
