Damn if you're going to make idiotic comments like this, at least know LS1's are 98+.

What about Mach 1's, Cobras, even the 05+ are usually pretty even with LS1's stock for stock for the most part.

Actually Vettes were produced in 97 with an LS1, so technically he's right. He didn't say F-body even though the thread is about a Camaro.

Stock for stock I think a Mach 1 is closer to an LS1 than an 05 is. A Cobra is just outright faster unless there's an idiot behind the wheel. It all comes down to preference really and if I can when they come out I'd love to have a new Camaro of course as long as it's atleast as fast as a 4th gen.

I think (like I already said) even with the bump in in the weight dept. the LS2 will move it along just fine.

I raced an 05 GT in my firebird and was pulling nicely from 70-100 or so, i pulled a car in that short 30mph sprint, so I wasnt really impressed with their speed from a stock standpoint.

3800lbs + 400BHP = most likely as fast as a 4th gen, so I guess if you consider stock 4th gens slow then you're right. Don't stock LS2 GTO's run low 13's. I'm not saying low 13's is fast by any means cause nowadays it isn't, but since the car is gonna weigh more atleast it's getting a bump in HP (LS1 --> LS2).

The current Z06 owners would cry foul if GM put they're mighty engine into a run-of-the-mill Camaro.

We'll see... but like I said, I doubt it. If the new Camaro is going to be built on the Zeta platform, it's going to be heavy, and it's going to need the LS7 or some form of 500BHP power plant to compete with the GT500.
I probably already said it in this thread, but I'll say it again. I've read more than once that they are possibly thinking of putting the LS7 in an "SS" model to compete with the GT500. Even if they did, it wouldn't be as fast/faster than the C6Z06, so no the current Z06 owners wouldn't cry foul. The Z06's would still be faster due to weight.

Yep, heard about this a few days ago. It looks like my project is going on hold. When I get back from Korea Im going to have a nice DP for an 09 when they come out. Or, I may wait till 2010 after they have worked all the bugs out. Im not sure yet.
