You pay them the $500 for Uninsured motorist fee and yes, it's good for a year. The extreme downfall to this is, if you cause an accident in anyway, you are completely fucked. Even the absolute best drivers, make a mistake now and then.

Try http://www.progressive.com

They will give you a free rate quote, and the price of a couple others. Its a great starting tool to at least give you an idea of what you'd be looking at spending.

Don't get any vehicle that is commonly stolen, don't get an SUV, don't get anything 4x4, or a V8, or fast/pretty/rare. All that increases your price. If zip code is in Va Beach, Norfolk, Hampton, expect to pay more than the same car in the country.

Do you mean I'm completely fucked as in trouble with law or my car will be fucked and i'll have to fix it myself? I live in Chesapeake so those cities don't bother me. I'm thinking about a POS 2wd truck, just something that runs and has ac. I dont care about looks honestly at all. Just need it to get to work and school and tote my bike around.

No, with the law you're fine. Completely fucked as in you have no way to pay the million dollar lawsuit you just lost from hitting/injuring/killing someone. Money to pay for their car repair or new car if you total it. That kind of thing, the stuff insurance pays when you're at fault.

And don't say, "I'm not going to get in any accidents." They are called accidents for a reason, you just never know.

Oh I know. Sometimes you just laugh too hard and lose control of certain muscles, thats not something I'd do on purpose.

I didn't even think about the lawsuit side of accidents though. Yea, I'm pretty fucked. Thanks.

I'm not going to read this whole thread, but I'll tell you what happened to me.

I lost my license for 6 months due to a reckless driving ticket. I had no tickets before the reckless and nothing else on my record either (23 years old at the time). Durring the period when my license was revoked I kept my car insurrance and after the date I started driving again. My rates never increased and I've never been questioned by the insurrance company for loosing my license.

We'll mine happend when I was 17. At the time I was on my parents insurance and they don't put up with any serious violations. I'm going to get my own insurance since I'm moving out soon, and my mom is pretty pissed because her rates are going up because of me.

Farmers. I only pay 95 a month for liability/uninsured motorist. I'm not sure how much it would be with your record, but they're a cheap company. Couldn't be too bad. o.O
