Lower compression = slower spool.

8.5:1 is silly low.

I'm going to be running somewhere around there. Why's that silly?

Too fast? Where is he looking to spool, 6k? He's got the compression set for ridiculous amount of boost from a fairly large snail, but he is looking for only 350. Oxymoronic imo. With a 8.5:1, he isn't going to like the SC-61 many are suggesting, since you have to pull atleast 10-12 psi from one to hit its efficiency range and by that time, yeah.

GSR tranny isn't -that- close ratio, if it were say a stock S4C then I'd say, good luck.

The GT28RS/GT2871RS is the perfect little "street" turbo for an easy 350.

Besides, it's a FWD. Trying to get traction on a boosted FWD is slightly ridiculous, fun and I have success (mind you, poly all the way around, traction bars, coil overs, changed out springs, etc.) but, it's just like when we were kids... ya know, think Big Wheels.

At high boost the GT28RS's T3 .63 A/R torque curve is going to be drastic (ie. 20psi) but its damn nice for daily driving at low boost. This depends too on what EM you have. If you have an AEM EMS, have it as the boost controller, or have a multi-stage boost controller (or hell even a Profec with remote switch) and proper driving. Yeah, smoking those putting down 600whp on the street (haven't heard of too many Hondas in the Hampton Roads area doing this - though I'm fresh to the area) wouldn't be too much a problem, assuming the race isn't a 145mph+ shut down.

There is a good deal of ways he could go with this, my recommendations come from a very generalized point of view. The GT28RS or GT2871RS would be a nice turbo of choice imo, the GT3255 is another nice one, if there is a huge concern about building boost too soon.

But, 320whp'ish at about 10-12psi on the GT28RS isn't unheard of, with 275whp around the 6k'ish RPM mark. I don't think thats too bad, though to each their own.

Because, the old tricks of running lower compression to run higher boost is simply, ridiculous.

With todays engine management especially, this tactic is not necessary and as dave put it, borderline "silly."

Though once again, all this depends upon setup, though 10 times to 1, if its a Honda setup, the owner usually wants to see "400whp" or now a days (as if anything more than 400 is honestly "streetable" on a FWD) "500whp", why would you kill your lower/mid ranges with a 8.5:1 compression.

You want to hear something that will get me flamed? Go with 9.5:1 compression ratio, go 2mm over (83mm is plenty, 84mm will increase torque only so slightly) and be happy.

I made 633 on an SC61. It was fun. and that was at 9.0:1 compression

Right, you have a damn nice dyno queen and drag car. But, 633whp on the street in a FWD. Come clean now.. I know 600-660 whp with a SC61 and I know just how much the wheels will be a spinnin' with boost set to the 600-660whp range.

My first question to the original poster would be: "How did you come up with 350whp?" and I'd go from there.

Haha.. yeah it spins. But pulls harder than almost anything I ever ridden in while spinning. It's defintely not practical on the street but on some nice slicks its a whole different story

You want to hear something that will get me flamed? Go with 9.5:1 compression ratio, go 2mm over (83mm is plenty, 84mm will increase torque only so slightly) and be happy.
But I want to see somewhere between 700-800hp and I could care less about power below 6000 rpms.

My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek. If you read any of my other posts in this thread, you'll see that I was being somewhat sarcastic. I am going to run somewhere around 8.5:1 though.
