Re: Good first car.
I was one of the most mature HS kids I knew, and I'm glad I never had a "fast" car until I was about 18
I had Preludes before that and I did end up doing some stupid shit. Mostly due to peer pressure I suppose.
Then I bought my LT1 so I could get accustomed to driving RWD, I wanted an LS1 but I didn't want to spend that much money on something I might end up in a ditch with in the rain.
Now I've got a blown cobra around 500bhp and I push the gas maybe 3x a week.
If i had $6000 and was 15-16.. I'd get a 1993-1997 Transam if I had balls. Keep in mind insurance is greatly different. My Cobras insurance is about 2500/yr, my Preludes when I was 2 years younger was probably 1300

Re: Good first car.
I can't say that I agree with the people who say that kids shouldn't have nice cars. If it wasn't for an asshole in an SUV I'd still have my BMW, and while it wasn't the fastest thing out there it was a lot of fun to drive. My advice to you, Is to get a nice well rounded car, but nothing insanely fast, because kids our age (15-20) usually don't have enough experience behind the wheel to handle something with a lot of power. I might suggest a Mk3 GTI or similar car. Something fun to drive that has some power, but nothing insane. Hope I've been at least a little bit helpful
