Well, mine tips the scales at a hair over 2,400lbs...Maybe i need YOUR deffinition of a "shit-ton"...
Oh, and how about 237rwhp with about $250 worth of mods when it came stock at 152rwhp WITHOUT an intercooler!!!(rated at 175). Might not impress you, but i can be humbling.

if you have truly cut your car's weight down to 2400 and have 237 rwhp then congratulations, you have just impressed me. i could care less how much you spent on it, for one i don't believe you, and two if money were truly an issue then we would all drive mustangs. but i still think you could have picked a better platform.
A better platform??? as in the base model car? I dont get it... the merkur Xr4Ti is a wicked platform.. what holds the world record for 0-60 as a street car??? the cosworth escort at 1.6 or 1.8 the linginfelter corvette has me confused with numbers today... anyways cosworth is the same company that helped ford make this platform.. but if you want to sit there and dis this AMERICAN under rated car go ahead.. I will just tell you why you are wrong... I dont know what kind of car you are use to driving but it has more power than most imports did in the same year and is faster than most imports of the same year.. if you think about it long and hard it might make sense.. a german rally platform.. with a 2.3 liter lima ford engine from the 70's with a cpu and turbo from the early 80's slapped on it... where does under powered come in??? no intercooler.. and all this ADVANCED and GREAT technologie of the 70's and 80's made 245hp in some applications stock... I dont see the underpower in it.. the merkur is underpowered from the rest of the 2.3 ford's becuase of the driving line.. one of the weakest rear ends ford could find along with the hummer for a tranny.. wtf was ford thinking except for cheap inexpensive performance.. this car beat bmw, mercedes, and audi in most performance stats of the same years... does your car do that??? ohh yeah.. STOCK... this car wasnt sent out to be the baddest of the bad.. it was to SURPRISE people.. just to get some attention... get over it.. if you dont like the car shut up and go back and mod your unoriginal car.. but the few 42000 people that bought the car in 85-89 will know what kind of car this is.. it may be ugly, it may be slow, it may not handle as good as a lotus, but damned if it isnt the funnest thing to drive... get off its ass, dork

Its true that for 2900lbs its underpowered. I was just stating that a 2900lbs car isnt necessarily a pig. Yes, it needs more power to be a real screamer from the factory, but thats Ford for ya.
I do have my car stripped, among other things, and i have people here that can vouge for that, so 2400+lbs isnt too hard to imagine. Im not begging you to believe me, just telling you more info so you can better understand. I also wanted to add that there are a very large amount of free mods you can do to a 2.3T. That is how i had such a low $$$ count for mods. It also doesnt hurt to have owned 5 other 2.3t cars and have spare parts laying around.
Yea, i caught on to that already...got a 88GT...LOL.
I have to ask you here, what the hell do you mean??? A better platform for what? It suits me fine for driving back and forth to school and doing some random autocrosses. It spends 90% of its life off road and sideways and its quite capable of what its doing. What platform do YOU think would suit me better for the driving I do??? Trust me, there are far worst cars i could be driving and trying to make faster. I think my RWD 2.3T car is quite a nice base car to make fast.
Oh BTW...a Merkur XR4Ti still holds the land speed record in its class...so it must be a good platform for going 200mph+...
...??? oh well

2900 lbs is a shit-ton for an underpowered car.

Oh shit ... do I hear the word ... :french accent: challenge ? Come on Floda .... show blackowt what its all about !! Every XR4Ti I've ever seen has been a very nice setup . Forced induction from the factory will always rock retrofitted any day , so I would definatley have to say nice platform ! I was actually thinking of getting one but the wife said NO ! ( I need a 4 door , but not a turbo
) I just think it's great that people actually use these 'rare' cars for performance ! Yeah , they are ugly , but you gotta love that double rear spoiler !! ( non-rice pre Honda era spoiler ! )
By the way .... how heavy is a stock 240sx ?? I didn't know they were soo light ! I'll take the Suzuki Swift GTs for 200 Bob ! ( sorry ... game show humor ! )

Damn, floda.. I had forgot about rick, 206 was it? kinda hard to believe that stock our cars pull up to 135ish and if you get enough hp to back the wind and our horrible .32 drag co our gear runs out at 150... I wouldnt know though.. just little hear say I hear from the few slow ugly merkurs... lol.. I dont know how you can stand any ground to talk about platforms driving a 240.. my 700 dollar merk is nose to nose with a 95 5 speed 240 until 90 ish where I pull on him until he goes woops.. I stop at 118 cause my car is 8 years newer and dohc... so umm.. maybe when you get your little sr20(bad ass IMO) then we should start talking about stuff... but then you would have a mighty nice price tag over mine... I should hit a 13.5 or so for less than 1500 dollars including the price of car.. but like you said.. Cost isnt everything...
Oh..and lets not forget about the 1987 Trans Am Championship going to a 2.3T XR4Ti driven by Scott Pruett....but like he said, they could of used a better platform...
...!?!?! I guess those V8 cars know better of what that car/motor can do...???

yea the guy i saw's license plate was EBONOMO. it was an older guy and he had a guage pillar and a big tach. suuuuper sleeper except for the turbo emblem on the back. if it wouldnt have had that i wouldve thought it was a escort with wheels and a wing. how hard are those things to find and how much do they run? from what ive read thatd be a reaaally fun car to have to play around with. how much did you all pay for yours?
