this is a personal statement, but i think sti bc i drove one and its a smooth ass ride. im a little biased bc i hate mitsu. I like it alot, and both cars are about equal in gas mileage.
Finally, I'm not a big fan of mitsu motors at all. I had a dsm and it was always in the shop. every week it was something new. dunno if its true with evo's though

for your needs(just a daily) i don't think your going to find a drastic difference in the performance of each vehicle. Keeping that in mind i would look at the aesthetics and since you mentioned 35K i'm assuming you want to go new. The 06+ Subaru's look like bleeding anus so i'd say go w/ the Mitsu or find a 05 ST-i.

true i dont want to have to buy it new but i dont want to buy a used one and have the thought in the back of my mind of whoever owned one before has dogged the piss out of it
