I do agree with the DUI money, in fact it should be even more if u are involved in a serious accident under the influence. But like 1,000 dollars for failure to signal is fucking outrageous

The fee only applies to criminal traffic violations, not normal infractions. You don't face these fees for simple traffic infractions. If you are facing these fees, it only means that you have no respect for the rules of the road and you shouldn't be on the road to begin with.

The only thing that I think needs to be changed is that it is applied equally to all drivers, not just VA residents.

I dont think you understand that its not just criminal traffic violations, which is the entire cause for the whole uproar. The fact that I can get a $1000+ ticket for not using my turn signal is outrageous.

 

uh, yea it does. a slew of moving violations and many failure tickets like failure to signal etc.. will net you these fees.

 

The average person does not understand that the fees only apply to criminal traffic violations. Failure to signal (like many other charges) can be reckless driving, which is a misdemeanor, but it does not have to be...it can be a simple traffic infraction (which it usually is) which is not assessed these new fees. Too many people misunderstand that aspect. Even before these additional fees, if found guilty of reckless failure to signal you would still have a criminal conviction on your record.

 

I agree here. The lady who about killed my 5 months ago got hit with all of those fees. i think its $750 or $1500 a year for 3 years she has to pay. Not including the court fees and whatever else.

IMO, just dont fuck up. Or just move down here.

Some of you are bitching about a fine for not using your signal...... Get real. What did you not understand about the law of using signals that makes you think you dont have to or shouldnt get in trouble? It a requirement of driving. If you have no signals, then hand signals must be used.
Its bad enough people drive like assholes. Atleast give a signal so I can tell what you are doing. Looking back at me and pacing the 1/2 car gap in front of me is not a turn signal.

I get pissed because hardly no-one uses a signal. When im on my bike that could be deadly for me, or even in the car.

 

While I agree that the fines need to be repealed, I don't see how it's simply a way squeeze money out of the poor.

 

+ 1..seriously, how hard is to flick the switch? nothing peeves me more when i'm driving and someone just slings their suv into my lane without a turn signal. i hope any and everyone who doesn't use turn signals gets fines up the rear XOXOXOXOXOXOXO
