Default Best car audio

So the speakers in my cobalt suck and I'm looking to replace them all the way around. I've got about 600 bucks to buy a new headunit 2 6x9's and whatever size speakers are in my door panels. Suggestions with links would be wonderful

$600 for a headunit and four speakers will net you junk. Save your money.

Not true I got a decent polk audio setup for ~$400, but that wasn't with the headunit.

Don't listen to MAD_DOHC. Speaker technology has barely advanced in 60 years, and in that time companies have figured out how to make decent speakers for not lot of money. Besides, anyone who thinks they're getting amazing fidelity in their car is fooling themselves. It's a car, not an anechoic chamber. Most speakers are either radiating directly into a piece of glass, or your knee. When you audition the speakers, keep in mind if they'll be bouncing their soundwaves off your glass, and whether they'll be boxed or use the whole trunk as an almost infinite baffle. The size of the box the speaker goes in changes the resonant frequency and Q. (which is the damping, or "tightness".) So use speakers in their intended application. Put a speaker designed for your trunk in a small box, and you get loose one-note bass. Put a speaker designed for a small box in your trunk, and bass output will suffer. (but I'm not going to explain over-damped right now.)

For $600, you can get a nice front stage setup. I d go with a used headunit and amp, and a new set of components in the front(I don't really like buying used speakers). You should be able to buy the wiring you'll need for that budget too; you might need to install it yourself though. GO-HO and other places would charge around $150+parts to install I think. The rears are not all that important unless you want to be considerate of your passengers.
