Yeah that's the ghetto way, cheap but damn if it aint dangerous. You could seriously hurt yourself if you aren't careful. I've seen a shock go through a mattress we put up after it was impacted. Shit was cool.

 

spring compressors are like 20 bucks, better than losing an eye etc...

btw, the springs compressors at autozone u rent are usually the huge ones and they dont work well on honda springs. I have the right spring compressor.

i dont know if this is like a mustang or not, but if they are short (lowering) springs, you dont need a compress or vise grips.. simply losen it from the spindle with a jack under the control arm, lower the jack slowly to let the control arm down.. once spring is out, simple put new sping seated in the top as you jack up the control, re-tighten spincle and your good..
