^ No... his car never failed tech... there is/was nothing wrong with it. For years Porsches have been know for snap oversteer... that happens w/ mid and rear engined cars. It takes a talented driver to drive a Porsche fast as there's a steep learning curve.
The "mechanic" apparently thought the car was unsafe what with it's snappy nature, but the car was designed that way. In the hands of a pro you can rotoate the car.

^ Now that porsche paid out... Dodge Viper is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. How dare they sell a 600 hp monster w/o any training or electronic nannies.

Pit-out was in the middle of the straightaway, with entry on the left side. But cars on the straightaway tended to stay to the left to set up for the right-hander at the end. To avoid collisions, cars entering the track were required to move to the right side as soon as possible. However, at this event, cars were entering the track and staying on the left side.
The aerial view of the track shows how the concrete wall that normally ran parallel to the track was moved to enlarge the area behind it. A second photo shows the Carrera GT crashed in the worst possible place—right where the wall protruded. It looks as the CGT would normally have hit the wall and bounced back toward the track. Whatever happened then would have been better than a 130-mile near head-on crash
combine that with a 600hp tricky handling car with no A/H and an inexperianced driver who has already spun out 3-4 times and your asking for trouble.Plus the fact that you can't see the cars coming at you b/c the wall was in the way.WTF!!!

I'm confused:
-I'm assuming they were running the track counterclockwise, but even in that case the pit out is technically "on a straight away" that is two turns before the wreck occured?

The way I understood it was a ferrari exited the pits too slow and the carrera gt had to dodge him and spun out hitting the wall almost head on

Wow. . .
If I make a lolly pop and you’re too stupid to realize you put it in your mouth and not your eye, am I liable for when you go blind? He hit everything on the head, this is a car with tricky characteristics, a lot of horsepower, and an unskilled driver. Take out the unskilled driver part and both those men could very well still be alive. Typical modern society, just find someone else to blame. It all boils down to the husband got into a car, in a competition environment, with an unskilled driver.
"Most people, especially those with children on the streets and highways, would fear a vehicle like the Carrera GT, with its tricky handling characteristics, 600-plus horsepower, and unskilled, unqualified drivers. When a 'race car for the streets' is sold to anyone with enough money, regardless of his ability to drive it, and it doesn’t even incorporate modern electronic safety devices that correct driver errors, then maybe the manufacturer should accept some responsibility for the foreseeable deaths that will result."
